Utah water project faces delay amid funding shortfall

The $3 billion Central Utah Project is near completion but will be delayed because only $3.5 million is allocated for it in President Barack Obama's budget. CUP was to develop 130 miles of pipelines to deliver water to Salt Lake City and southern Utah County. "Utah cannot continue to prosper without a dependable water supply," Gov. Gary Herbert said. Zach Frankel, executive director of the Utah Rivers Council, calls the project "a hemorrhage of cash."
