Kan. to temporarily allow licenses for teachers without education degrees

The Kansas State Board of Education on Wednesday voted 9-1 to temporarily adopt guidelines that will allow school districts to hire some teachers who do not have education degrees. Public comment will be sought on the guidelines, which will take effect next week. The changes include allowing professionals with science, technology, engineering and math degrees and five years of work experience to receive a one-year teaching license for eighth- through 12th-grade classrooms.
