Klein rejects most sabbatical requests

New York City Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein angered veteran teachers yesterday when he denied hundreds of applications for yearlong sabbaticals. Officials defended the decision, saying it would save at least $35 million and that teachers had known fewer sabbaticals would be granted this year.
