Principal: NCLB out of touch with socioceconomic realities

Mitcho, principal of the Thomas Bowe School in Glasboro, N.J., says any assessment of NCLB's goals must consider the broader puzzle of how to create a literate society in a world of haves and have-nots. The legislation's goals sound great, he says, but they fail to reflect the reality that poor children's basic needs must be met before learning can take place.
