Delaware approves pioneering offshore wind farm

Delaware residents will save about $100 million on their power bills under a law authorizing an offshore wind farm 11 miles east of Rehoboth Beach -- one of the first such projects in U.S. waters. Bluewater Wind LLC will erect 60 large turbines, guaranteeing up to 200 megawatts of electricity annually to local utility Delmarva Power, beginning as soon as 2012. "We need to get away from the fossil fuels," said Gov. Ruth Ann Minner as she signed the measure just hours after it was unanimously approved by the state legislature. "We need to get away from dependence on foreign oil."
