California high school to offer GIS instruction

One California high school is launching a course this fall in geographic information systems mapping technology. GIS technology is used in many industries to track trends or such events as swine-flu outbreaks or crime. The course will be part of a district initiative with private companies that will eventually include a new GIS lab and an advanced GIS course in which high-school students could earn college credit.
