Kids eat up Shrek's onion pitch

The namesake ogre from the popular movie franchise "Shrek" is doing what many parents and marketing experts might think is impossible -- making onions appeal to young children. The campaign, dubbed "Shrek Forever After, Vidalias Forever Sweet," includes a website as well as the cartoon character's image on packaging and store displays -- and it appears to be working. Vidalia onion growers report shipping 8 million more pounds of the onions over the same period in 2009.
