Report: Dinnertime restaurant visits on the rise

Restaurants began to see their suppertime traffic rise in the second half of last year, after eight consecutive quarters of declines, and the trend has continued in the first half of 2011, according to new data from NPD Group. Modest improvements in employment and consumer confidence, pent-up demand and rising grocery costs that make meals at home less economical likely combined to drive the increase, said analyst Bonnie Riggs.
