DOMA ruling affects ACA calculations, employer policies

The Supreme Court's decision to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act means some married same-sex couples will qualify for health insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act while others who would have qualified had they filed their federal tax returns singly will not if they file as a couple and report higher income levels. Employers in states that recognize same-sex marriage will have to ensure that their benefit programs comply with the law.
