Food and drink fraud on the rise due to economic crisis

From wine, champagne and vodka to chocolate, olive oil and horse meat, investigators are seeing widespread food counterfeiting as a result of the ongoing economic crisis. "Around the world, food fraud is an epidemic — in every single country where food is produced or grown, food fraud is occurring," said Mitchell Weinberg, president of food-security advising firm Inscatech. "Just about every single ingredient that has even a moderate economic value is potentially vulnerable to fraud."
