Mass. city council allots money for schools, capital projects

The Boston City Council has unanimously passed a $2.6 billion budget for fiscal 2014, a 5.2% increase compared with fiscal 2013. The budget includes a 2.5% increase in property tax. The council also approved a $937.4 million budget for schools and a five-year, $1.8 billion spending plan for capital projects.
