New species of bird discovered in Cambodian capital

A previously undiscovered species of tailorbird has been confirmed in Cambodia, living in an unusual urban setting within the city of Phnom Penh. The Cambodian tailorbird, first spotted in 2009 during a routine avian flu check, was differentiated from other tailorbird species through tests that explored details including genes, plumage and songs. "The modern discovery of an undescribed bird species within the limits of a large populous city ... is extraordinary," said the study's co-author Simon Mahood.
