NPs can increase quality of geriatric care, study says

More quality indicators were met when geriatric patients were seen by a nurse practitioner along with a physician than when patient care was handled by a physician alone, according to a study at two primary care facilities by researchers at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine. The report in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society noted that more detailed patient histories and other assessments were performed by NPs. Physicians may overlook or lack the time to address chronic conditions, the study's lead author said.
