US to suspend Bangladesh trade privileges

The Obama administration said Thursday it will suspend trade privileges with Bangladesh in 60 days, in a largely symbolic move that will raise tariffs on 1% of the $4.9 billion in annual exports to the US. The administration made the move to push garment manufacturers to fix factory safety problems and labor rights violations, but the changes won't apply to the garment industry because it doesn't have duty-free status.
