State commission takes over approving Florida charter schools

The new Florida Schools of Excellence Commission will now approve and oversee charter schools, which are currently approved by locally elected school boards, some of which are hostile to the schools. The law was signed by Gov. Jeb Bush, a well-known proponent of charter schools.
