President Barack Obama has hailed the climate-change bill, saying it would create jobs in the alternative-energy industry and minimize U.S. dependence on fossil fuels. "The nation that leads in the creation of a clean-energy economy will be the nation that leads the 21st century global economy," he said. Backers say the bill would save 240 million barrels of oil by 2020 and create 1.7 million jobs, but Republicans, including Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, say the bill would "ship millions of jobs to competitors like China and India. We should be creating American jobs, not destroying them."
