Medical directors' group urges postponement of CPOE implementation

The Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems has recommended that the implementation of computerized physician order entry under the "meaningful use" of electronic records be delayed until 2013 or later. In a letter to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, the association cited CPOE as a "complicated undertaking fraught with potential unintended negative consequences if done too quickly or incorrectly."
