Premier: Standards are needed for the success of EHRs

The Premier health care alliance said the CMS proposal to use electronic health record-based documents for hospital inpatient prospective-payment systems for acute care hospitals "is a step in the right direction," but is based "on the existing system rather than leveraging EHRs' potential to improve quality and efficiency." Premier said there is a need to establish standards to clarify important clinical concepts used in different systems and to determine compliance with evidence-based care.
