European parliament proposes new food-labelling rules

The European parliament has proposed draft legislation that would replace the system of measuring food items, such as eggs or bread rolls, by a number with a weight-based system. Caroline Spelman, environment secretary for the UK, indicated that Britain will fight the enforcement of the rule. The changes would cost retailers millions of pounds.
