Gucci fashion house battles plan to use family name for hotel chain

The Gucci fashion house, now French-owned, has taken legal action against the empire's founder's great-granddaughter, Elisabetta Gucci, to prevent her from using the Gucci name in a planned worldwide chain of hotels. The first hotel, an 87-room luxury boutique hotel, is due to open in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, this year, and 40 more Gucci hotels are planned around the world during the next 15 years. The Gucci fashion house said in its lawsuit it has no relationship with the hotel company and is seeking injunctive relief to protect its rights.
