United, Continental pilots say pre-merger talks have stalled:

The union representing pilots at United Airlines and Continental Airlines says it has reached an impasse in efforts to forge a transition agreement ahead of a merger by the two companies. Neither side would discuss specific sticking points, but pilots indicated the dispute involved quality-of-life demands rather than core economic issues. "While we weren't able to reach a transition agreement with our pilots at this time, we will continue to work with them on joint collective bargaining agreement," said a Continental representative.
