Virginia gas company agrees to $1.8M pipeline settlement

Virginia Natural Gas will pay up to $1.8 million in fines related to numerous pipeline-safety violations. Regulators found that workers were smoking in gas-line trenches, accused the company of using improper welding techniques and said that an underwater gas pipeline had floated away shortly after its installation. "[O]ur customers can be assured that any issues are addressed immediately," the company said in a written statement.
