Virginia rail chief touts new Norfolk passenger line

The rail chief of Virginia's transportation department touted the state's plans to launch new passenger rail service out of Norfolk. The $93 million approved by the Commonwealth Transportation Board last week for track improvements is money "well-spent," said Thelma Drake, director of the Department of Rail and Public Transportation. She cited the success of Amtrak's new Lynchburg line, which surpassed its annual ridership goal in just six months.
