Mobile payment startup Clinkle has been operating beneath the radar to raise $25 million, which the company calls a record for Silicon Valley seed funding. Run by 22-year-old Lucas Duplan, Clinkle's backers include some of the heaviest hitters in Silicon Valley, although Duplan said little about his strategy. "What we've done is create a system of incentives for consumers and merchants that's orders of magnitude better than the status quo," he said. Also on the mobile finance front, mobile banker GoBank launched Tuesday with a no-fee strategy. "The downside is nobody may pay us anything. But I think most people will pay us something," said GoBank CEO Steve Streit.
