German retail sales rose higher than forecast in May

Germany's retailers saw sales rise 0.8% in May, higher than economists' estimate of 0.4%, according to the Federal Statistics Office in Wiesbaden. The report, which comes after a separate report showed unemployment declined in June, fueled optimism about a recovery for Europe's largest economy.
