Ind. law creates new midwife licensure path

An Indiana law that took effect Monday allows certified professional midwives with federal licenses to obtain state licensure, replacing an older statute that allowed only certified nurse midwives licensed by the state to assist at home births. Most Indiana CNWs practice in hospitals. The law creates a certified direct-entry midwife license to allow practitioners, in collaboration with a physician, to assist with home births.
