Ireland slides back into recession

Ireland's Central Statistics Office said data confirm that the economy is officially in a recession. In the first quarter, gross domestic product contracted 0.6%. Major factors included a 7.4% drop in capital spending and a 3.2% decline in the export of goods and services, the biggest quarterly export drop ever recorded.
