Ohio district forfeits funds by rejecting Race to the Top

The Whitehall school board in Ohio has decided to forfeit almost $358,000 by withdrawing from the federal Race to the Top program. School leaders were concerned about starting new teacher and administrative evaluations, which would have to be launched in the fall as a condition of the program. The district already spent about $400,000 of its grant. Officials in Ohio say the remaining funds will be distributed to other school districts in Ohio that have signed on to Race to the Top.
