Scientists say they're closing in on fusion energy generation

The international scientific community is working on the most expensive scientific experiment of all time -- a facility costing about $20.8 billion that's intended to harness the power of fusion energy. The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor aims to tap into the same processes that fuel the sun, theoretically allowing the generation of about 10 times as much heat as is used to start the fusion process.
