Stem cell therapy shows promise in small spinal trial in China

Three-quarters of patients with spinal cord injuries who received injections of umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells were able to walk with little help in a small clinical study in China, according to the nonprofit group ChinaSCINet. Regulatory approval is being sought for the next phase of development, which could involve 240 patients in an international late-stage trial.
