Twitter's power to connect people on full display in Turkey and Texas

Twitter's power was demonstrated again this week in Texas, where it was used to rally opponents of an anti-abortion bill, and in Turkey, where anti-government demonstrators used the service to bypass the official media and organize large-scale protests. That showed Twitter's ability to function as a kind of media service in places and situations where the mainstream media falls short, Mathew Ingram writes. "While Twitter may not see itself as a media entity -- or may not want to promote itself as such, for fear of irritating its potential partners -- the reality is that it is often the only media outlet that matters," Ingram writes.
