Drugmakers get creative in developing abuse-resistant generic OxyContin

Pain Therapeutics, a small San Francisco biotech firm,has come up with a generic OxyContin that is reformulated to prevent abuse. The company's experimental version of OxyContin, called Remoxy, mixes oxycodone with three other substances that won't release the active ingredient oxycodone when crushed or dissolved in water or alcohol, which is how the drug is commonly abused.
