Caribbean sees smooth sailing, but some worry about future

Although the Caribbean Hotel Industry Conference in Miami saw a lot of optimism from attendees in its opening days, many experts caution the region's tourism sector needs to be prepared for future downturns. The U.S. is preparing to implement new rules requiring its citizens to show passports when re-entering America from the Caribbean. "We cannot lose sight of the impact of the new regulations on Caribbean travel and tourism, which will be a permanent realignment of traffic, with spontaneous, last-minute travel significantly reduced," Caribbean Hotel Association President Berthia Parle said.
