Study: Coffee, exercise before a CT scan can obscure image

Drinking coffee or even exercising prior to a CT scan or positron emission tomography imaging could obscure scan results, according to a new study. The scans commonly use an imaging tracer called FDG, that goes into the heart to provide an image of the heart's function during a scan, but the caffeine from coffee, as well as exercise, can cause the heart to beat faster and more FDG to appear in the region, thereby obscuring the image.
