In her nine years at the helm of Newark, N.J., schools, Marion Bolden has weathered plenty of challenges, including two attempts to replace her, but she has bettered the district's financial standing and put in place programs meant to raise consistently below-average test scores. The Newark native has her detractors, but her fans are plentiful.
