Study: Nitroglycerin patch fails to hasten healing of Achilles injuries

Skin patches that administer topical glyceryl trinitrate did not expedite healing of patients with noninsertional Achilles tendinopathy, British researchers found. A previous study suggested that a patch from Schering-Plough Corp. boosted collagen formation and triggered the activity of fibroblasts -- cells that produce connective tissue -- in patients with Achilles tendon injuries.
