Summer jobs can help enrich teens' lives

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino wants local businesses to hire some 10,000 teens over the summer in a bid to decrease the violence among youth that can be sparked by boredom and a lack of direction. Boston Globe publisher P. Steven Ainsley and John Hancock Financial Services President-CEO John D. DesPrez III jointly will create 500 such positions within their organizations and several other businesses have done likewise, and they urge others in the community to join in achieving the mayor's goal.
