Interior Department designates federal land for solar

The Interior Department on Monday designated thousands of acres of federal land for potential solar energy development. The land is spread across six Western states and could generate nearly 100,000 megawatts of electricity. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said the designated land displays "excellent solar energy potential and limited conflicts with wildlife, other natural resources or land users."
