Lawmakers sponsor bills for MRSA screening in hospitals

Congress recently introduced legislation that would require hospitals to screen patients admitted to intensive care units and other high-risk units for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus to prevent the spread of infection. The measure -- which would require hospitals to screen all patients for MRSA by 2014 -- also encourages other effective infection-control strategies.
