Diabetes may be prevented with community-based intervention

U.S. researchers found that a community-based lifestyle intervention modeled after the government-funded Diabetes Prevention Program proved effective in reducing body weight and lowering blood sugar level in participants after 12 months. "This approach shows great promise for preventing diabetes" and "could be replicated at diabetes care centers across the country," the lead author said.
