Study: Strong diabetes therapy battles retinopathy, not heart disease

A U.S. study found that Type 2 diabetics who received intensive therapy for blood-sugar control had reduced progression of retinopathy compared with those who got standard treatment. However, aggressive therapy that included Abbott Laboratories' statin TriCor did not provide significant benefit in terms of preventing heart disease and stroke, researchers reported.
