Misconceptions fuel debate over dermatology reimbursement rates

As the number of dermatologic surgeries performed each year rises along with skin cancer rates, the specialty has come under cost-cutters' microscopes, writes Dr. Brett Coldiron, clinical assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Cincinnati and president of the American College of Mohs Surgery. "It is imperative that dermatologists work together to educate Congress, MedPAC, and the CMS about the skin cancer epidemic, and prove that dermatologists are the solution, not the problem," Coldiron writes.
