NYC contractors, trade unions negotiate renewals as deadline nears

It's likely that negotiations on construction contracts in New York City will last until the 11:59 deadline tonight. In the spotlight are bargaining agreements for operating engineers, carpenters and concrete workers. There is concern that work could be delayed on some $10 billion worth of projects, including Forest City Ratner's basketball arena in Brooklyn and Extell Development's International Gem Tower in Midtown.
