Microsoft reportedly offers $500M for Claria

Microsoft reportedly is negotiating to buy adware company Claria, once pilloried for its lax privacy policies and intrusive pop-ups when it was called by its previous name, Gator. Reports are that Microsoft has offered $500 million for the Redwood City, Calif.-based company, which resells Web inventory at a premium to advertisers looking to target users based on their online behavior.
