Obituary: Teen's disorder inspired mother's foundation

Michael Metil had a genetic disorder that caused brain damage when he was a baby. More widespread screening might have prevented Michael's brain damage, and that prompted his mother to launch a foundation to do just that. Michael, who died Saturday, was a joyful 15-year-old who loved music and fireworks, his special educators said.
