BLM eyes "geld and release" plan to curb wild horse population

The federal Bureau of Land Management is considering a plan to create herds of geldings as a way to curb fast-growing wild horse populations in the West and cut costs by reducing the number of captured horses it must house. The plan could provide a more acceptable alternative to the legal but unpopular option of sending horses to slaughter.
