Doubled-up drill pipe could help explain BP blowout

Scientists have found not one but two drill pipes jammed into the wreckage of the Deepwater Horizon rig's blowout preventer -- a discovery that could help explain the equipment's failure to control the gas surge that destroyed the rig. The gas pressure could have been so great that it forced sections of pipe into the blowout preventer's machinery, preventing the safety device from cutting off the rising oil and gas, the scientists say.
