Illinois invokes eminent domain for airport plan

The Illinois Department of Transportation is invoking eminent domain to build an airport in Beecher, Ill. However, the Federal Aviation Administration has not given the proposed airport final approval yet. The state has purchased about half of the acreage needed for the first phase of the 4,400-acre airport, which is designed to ease congestion at Chicago airports.
