Unemployment payments are set to end for millions in the U.S.

The U.S. Senate's failure to act on a bill to extend unemployment benefits for those without a job for more than six months means more than 2 million people will have their payments cut off. Democrats fell one vote short of the 60 they needed to end a Republican filibuster and bring the matter to a floor vote. The fate of the measure remains uncertain until after Congress returns from its July Fourth recess.
