Manage illnesses in cancer patients carefully, researcher says

A study of more than 64,000 women age 66 and older with breast cancer found that those who suffered co-morbid conditions such as stroke, heart disease and diabetes were more likely to die from any cause, including cancer, compared with those without other illnesses. Researchers, whose study appears in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, said the findings underscore the importance of effective care management of other conditions along with cancer.
